Covid-19 & Us
Here at Fifteas we have suffered greatly during the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside many other businesses. Although our staff are furloughed, this doesn't mean other expenses disappear.
After the government announced national lockdown in March 2020 we were forced to close our doors. We thought long and hard about what to do next, we decided to start our takeaway and delivery services, something we have never done before and knew very little about. We were extremely busy and although we made a few early mistakes, we went from strength to strength. Fortunately, we managed to offer these services during some key dates, including the VE Day celebrations, which saw communities across Bishop Auckland, holding socially distanced garden parties, which we had the honour of providing afternoon teas for.
July 2020 saw the government reduce lockdown measures so we took the decision to reopen. Opening our doors again was a very surreal experience with many of our lovely customers returning for cakes, coffees, and of course, lots of tea. We introduced lots of changes for the safety of our staff and customers, including increased cleaning, hand sanitising stations, masks and visors, one way systems, and a pay at table service. We were overjoyed to be serving customers face to face again.
The government's 'eat out to help out' scheme in August increased footfall massively and certainly helped us balance our books and try and recoup some of the previous few months losses.
As Christmas rapidly approached, we made the decision to close our doors again and revert back to takeaway and delivery services. This was a difficult time to be closed as Christmas is normally jampacked with events and Christmas parties. Takeaways and deliveries were slow since the weather wasn't brilliant for garden gatherings.
Coming into a new year, and not quite believing we are nearly 12 months into a global pandemic, we have new energy after having a few days off relaxing over a very unusual Christmas. We have a very busy diary, and deliveries are increasing by the day, with people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and so on.
February & March were extremely busy with orders, and with key dates Like Valentines Day and Mothers day this really helped with sales.
April & May are looking very busy both with orders and with an interior redesign. After the government announcement that we should (all being well) be able to open our doors again on the 17th May 2021. We cant wait to welcome you back into our new look tea room.
We can't wait to have you back inside and for us to be serving you once more, but until then, please Stay Safe and remember Hands, Face, Space and Fresh Air
Lots of Love
Alicia, Rebecca and all the Fifteas Team
